With Fr Matthew-Anthony Hysell

During the week leading up to Pentecost, Fr Matthew-Anthony Hysell will preach day retreat in the form of a 'spiritual life boot camp,' Twelve-Star General in Combat Boots, in which we will learn how the virtues and the Gifts operate in the soul of the Blessed Virgin Mary under her title as "Spouse of the Holy Spirit."  Thus, on 14-18 May, we will begin with Adoration, Scriptural Rosary, and Mass in the morning, followed by praise and worship, and three conferences.  Lunch will be taken in common and in silence with spiritual reading.  More details in the coming  months.  To enquire or to register, call Corpus Christi Parish at 780-466-7576 or email at This email address is being protected from spambots. Guest Speaker: Fr. Marc Cramer

I was born Feb 12, 1970 right here in Edmonton. I grew up as the oldest child of three boys. My second youngest brother is 3 years younger than me and my youngest brother is 15 years younger than me. Both of my parents are still living and doing well. This year we have celebrated my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary!!

I grew up Catholic and received all my normal sacraments. I have good memories of growing up and going to Church on Sundays fairly regular. When I became a teenager I began to question life and the Church. I had some very close friends who were Mormon and they intrigued me. They encouraged me to really pray and because of their insistence I really prayed hard for the first time in my life. Through this intense prayer, I really encountered God quite profoundly and I loved it. I starting to go to the Mormon Church at 16 and eventually joined them when I turned 18.

I had a wonderful time in the Mormon Church and was able to do a mission for 2 years in Brazil. When I turned 28, I began to feel that my life was empty and was missing something. Through prayer, I began to realize that God was telling me that the only way that I could overcome this visceral emptiness I was feeling, was to return to the Faith of my parents, Catholicism. I did just that and I felt whole again!

I loved being Catholic again and enjoyed learning more and more about my Faith. I felt a calling to the priesthood and entered St. Joseph’s Seminary in 2001 and was ordained a priest June 19, 2006. I have served at St. Joseph’s Basilica (Edmonton), Lacombe, Wetaskiwin/Hobbema and now at Good Shepherd. I love being a priest and I have never lived a more impactful life than I do now. It is my pleasure to be your pastor and serve you. It is my utmost desire that you all work out your salvation and live forever with God in Heaven. May God bless and keep you all.
